Jenni and Autumn are best friends.  They are more than best friends, they are the best friends that could ever be. Two hours apart and there are a million and a half things that have to be said to each other. And here on their holidays they can spend as much time as they like together. And even though Jenni doesn’t really want to go horse riding, she says yes, because she goes everywhere with Autumn.  So why aren’t Autumn and her parents there when she goes to meet them?

This is an enthralling tale of what happened next, of unexpected consequences and of things that might have been.  I simply could not put it down.  The characters are vivid (especially the ‘not-friends’!), the family situations are all too real, and the cumulative effects of disaster on happy normal lives are all too painfully rendered.

And just when you think it’s all going to work out happily in the end…

It’s a real page turner, resonant with the uncertainties and vitally important issues of early teens.  A brilliantly conceived thriller in the guise of a friendship story.  I loved it.
