If you read my review of The Ninja Librarian then I hope you went straight out – or switched tabs – to buy it!  Now you can get the sequel.

Return to Skunk Corners by Rebecca M. Douglass

skunk corners front

Rebecca says: Things have been changing in Skunk Corners, and Big Al isn’t sure she likes it.  Unless it means a hot bath.  Twenty-one new stories bring you closer than ever to Skunk Corners with its humor, love of books, and Ninja wisdom (sometimes accompanied by a kick where it will do the most good). This second book in the Ninja Librarian series shows the continuing struggles as the town becomes a community and as Al finds new ways to accept responsibilities she never thought she wanted.

I haven’t read it yet, but I’m certainly looking forward to it.  It’s published today on Amazon – paperback and ebook, and there’s a Goodreads Giveaway to win a copy running until 31st August.

I asked the author to tell us a few secrets.

JP: I know you’re a librarian, but how did you get the idea of a Ninja Librarian?

RD:  The idea truly came from one smart-alec comment by our then-librarian, who coincidentally looks a lot like the Ninja Librarian.  He’d been out to the Post Office, and was rather long returning.  When he came in, I said I’d been worried he’d been mugged or something, and his reply was “I don’t get mugged; I’m trained to kill.”  My equally smart-alec response was “oh, what are you, some kind of Ninja Librarian?”  And, in a classic (but actually rare) moment of inspiration, Skunk Corners was born.  Good thing it was a slow night at the library, because I just had to start writing right then.

JP: Where is Skunk Corners?

RD: The southwest corner of my brain.  Seriously, I modeled the area probably most after the California Sierra foothill country (gold country), but it is deliberately vague and could as easily be Colorado or (almost) anywhere.

JP: Who is your favourite character in your books?

RD: I have a lot of favorites.  I probably identify most with Big Al, though in the new book Tess and even Peggy are more developed and I like them a lot, too.  Of course, the Librarian himself is a lot of fun to write.  So are the bad guys, since I’ve allowed myself to be a little over the top with them.

JP: Ok, you’ve finished this one… just!  What’s next?

RD: I’m in late editing on my first (adult) mystery, a rather light-hearted look at death and the Pissmawallops Island PTA.  This is an older project that I’ve been dusting off and revising in light of what I’ve learned over the last few years of writing.  Like the Ninja Librarian, it’s got plenty of humor and not a whole lot of death.

That sounds fun too.  Thanks, Rebecca – good luck with Return to Skunk Corners!
