December is often the time for navel-gazing, for assembling ‘Best of’ lists, and over-indulgence.  I’m going to crave your indulgence and ask for some feedback.  Now that I have two series, one group project, and my dad’s memoirs to manage, I realise I have to do more structured promotional work.  Blogging is part of that, but, as with last year, I want to cut down the time spent managing my blog.  The trouble is, I do most of it because I enjoy it.  I do some of it because I hope it helps other authors, and goodness knows I’ve had a lot of help from bloggers with my own books.

So, what do you want?  What do I do that entertains you and keeps you coming back for more, and what do I do that you wish I’d stop?

Here’s a list of the categories of my posts, which I hope helps you to identify what you enjoy most.  I’m going to ask you to pick up to FIVE categories that you enjoy most (although you can pick fewer).  I hope you enjoy them all, but if I really am going to stick to four posts a week, I’d like to know what you like most.

If you can’t see the poll, you could choose five from the list of categories in the left sidebar and put them in the comments, but I hope the poll works on all browsers.

I enjoy your blog in general Jemima whether you be giving news about your Dad’s book or giving opinions or giving reviews. If I’m honest the only thing I (personally) am not a fan of on any blog is haikus. I’m afraid they leave me cold. I’m used to the poetry I grew up with full of feeling and description.
I accept they’re a widely loved art form these days but reading them I often feel cheated.

Good point about your books. I know that you, like me, struggle with how to keep them in he readers’ minds while not being in your face about it.

Also–I didn’t select blog hops, but I put the IWSG in the writing category 🙂

Also–some things are good as an occasional thing, but not regular. I’m not a fan of book blasts, but occasionally for something you think would be great for your readers is fine.

Ah, marketing. When you figure out the perfect plan, let me know 😉

Thank you all. Steve, I read a nice posts about authors who blog and I think the gist was, blog about what your audience wants, not about your books all the time – think of it as more like a party than a sales desk. And as I’d already prepared this post, I agreed with them!

Jemima, the thing I like about your blog is the variety – there’s always something new and usually surprising. So I would say all of the above!

That’s a point, Noelleg, and no reason why Jemima has to limit herself to 4 or 5 types of posts–they just can’t all happen every week. Which is fine!
