As is often the case, I’m using the prompt as my title again today. I realised this one may make more sense to people living in the Commonwealth than in some other countries.
The Esteemed Guest
“He’s just a client.”
“But entertaining is my role. I have to ensure everything’s perfect. What does he eat? More important — what doesn’t he eat?”
“Just do your usual. It’ll be perfect.”
She planned for weeks; cleaned, cooked, baked.
The evening came… with the message: “Regrettably required at Grandmother’s deathbed.”
