fi50Lucky charms is the prompt for this month’s Fiction in Fifty (words), organised by the Bookshelf Gargoyle.  It’s a great prompt – there are so many interpretations you can put on those two words.

I decided to go for the talisman approach.  I’m not sure if this is really flash fiction, since it’s almost a blurb for my Princelings books 7 and 8.  I’ve yet to discover the fate or power of this silver whistle, though.  I think it’s a lucky charm, but you never know, it might summon a horde of all-conquering heroes.

The Silver Whistle

Willoughby had always had his lucky whistle. He didn’t know it changed silver cups into wooden ones until he was accused of stealing one.

Then he lost it in battle.

So why was it found in Prince Kevin’s bag, after a silver bar had been changed into a wooden one?

Willoughby is the Narrator is the title of my new Princelings book, coming out on April 27th.  If you’d like to join in the book launch, please check out the book launch sign-up page, here. There’s a giveaway which can include a link to your blog or Facebook, Twitter or other social media if you take part.

Prince Kevin turns up as a secondary character in the books from The Talent Seekers onwards.  At the end of Willoughby the Narrator people discuss where he’s disappeared to.  All is revealed in book 8, the Princelings of the North, provisionally booked for release next winter.

Here’s the real Kevin (now an old man in his seventh year) with the cover for Willoughby’s book.

Not so much a blurb as a teaser!
