The Book Bloggers’ Hop is run by the Coffee Addicted Writer, with a question for bloggers each week.

I thought those Bs would be a good start to the blogging week on the A to Z Challenge, and especially since this weekend’s question is…

Do you visit every listed blog in the linky list when you are participating in a meme?

book bloggers' hopWell, without a linky list for this year’s A to Z, the answer is definitely no. Even if we had, I would only have got round a small proportion of them – around 10%. Usually though, I try to visit a good percentage of the people in a blog hop. I often take one side of the column to start with, then do the rest if time. Or start at my name and do all those after…. or something like that. I try to get to at least twenty on any hop – maybe ten a day if it’s ‘live’ for a good while.

I often shortcut that by visiting those that comment on my post. Visiting back is something I try to school myself into–and then I try to remember at least to Tweet their post–but I’m still working on it.

What about you?

Hi Jemima – I do my best … and not always as thoroughly as I can – and look for a few new people to relate to … but if the list is short (when?!) then I’ll manage … cheers Hilary

Yeah, it’s hard sometimes – and others are easy!

The only one with a linky list I’ve taken part in is A to Z, which I did in 2014 and 15 but not since, and that was so long and diverse it was hard! Some blogs, I just can’t think of anything to say about but at least a WordPress Like lets them know I’ve been there. Blogger is more tricky that way. In general, I try to visit everyone who likes or comments at least once, but that’s getting harder too.

Blogger has the G +1 button, but I will say that’s not as visible as the “like” button. And you have to have a google account.

I also just realized that although I can see the number of people who recommended it on G+, I can’t see who they are. So that means I can’t visit back.

Yeah – I have a Google account, but I rarely do anything there. I’ve seen some Blogger blogs with a kind of vote button which can obviously be tailored, but I haven’t seen how to put it on my publisher site, even if I wanted it there.

Yes, I don’t see it on most of the ones I follow, only some. I assume it’s to do with Google+ which not everyone uses (including me, though I do have a Google account).

I agree – I really like the WordPress ‘Like’ button.

I usually start with those names closest to mine on the list, then skim for other people that I know or blog names or topics that I think might interest me. And I always try to visit anyone who comments on my own blog. I usually hit 10-20 a day if I have time, and there have been a few times I’ve pushed myself to 2 or 3 times that number.

I really don’t like the setup of this year’s A-to-Z because the list of posts is just messy and irregular. I’m hoping to find my 10 or so blogs in the first couple of days that I enjoy following and I’ll just stick to those.

I agree about the chaotic list! I realized that I often can’t really remember where I’ve been (especially if it was a blog that didn’t end up interesting me). The linky-list helped with that, since the blogs stayed in the same order, and as long as I left the window open, even showed which ones I’d clicked on.

As for visiting all the blogs on any hop I participate in…I have good intentions 🙂 The reality is that I usually get to about a half a dozen. During A to Z I visit any who comment on my blog, and try to hit about 5 a day beyond that. This year, I’m following links through comments, rather than trying to make any sense of the list. Which makes me realize that leaving comments on blogs I visit is good for more than just the blogger I’m visiting, because I’m sure others are doing it my way, too!

That’s my response so far – and it’s only day 2. I was just thoroughly fuddled on Saturday, and I guess everyone else was too. I ended up following back everybody who had visited me, and then followed a few who had commented on those. I liked the order of the list and working one’s way down from your own name. That way everybody got some attention.

I usually just try to work through the list as I don’t feel it’s fair to discriminate. I just see how far I get. Sometimes I’ve taken part in a bloghop with only a small handful of participants – of course then it’s easier to get to them all!

You’re right, Nick. I like small blog hops for that reason – although big ones may have more diversity in the participation.

Thanks for visiting my blog, so nice to meet someone who is familiar with Enid Blyton. I think you’ve summed up how many blogs in a Linky List I visit as well! I’m finding the A to Z very tough this year; wish they would bring back the blog categories.

I hope so too, Pamela. Thanks for visiting – I suspect most people will do this by re-visiting people this year. Which in one way is good, because hopefully we’ll get to know each other well enough to keep visiting throughout the year.
      Ever the optimist 🙂

Jemima, saw your comment on another post and it is so cool that you have a signed postcard from Enid Blyton!! Regarding commenting, I am working on how best to do my fair share of commenting still.. and I agree that the A to Z list overwhelms but I did random visits (and of course, visiting those who visited me).. and yours, I ended up visiting because of your comment on the Enid Blyton post 🙂 LadyInRead@MyRandRSpace-My_B_Post

Funny – I think I went to the Enid Blyton post because Pamela had commented on someone else’s post! So this year’s a to z is really a chain comment!

Good point. That’s why I really like the WordPress ‘Like’, so at least I can show I’ve been there!
