The Best of 2017 Giveaway is a delightful Hop organised by Bookhounds, to whom we are very grateful. It enables us to celebrate our best reads of 2017, whether published in the year or not.
My Best of 2017
I made a list of all the books I gave five stars to on Goodreads in 2017, and decided on the four that really stood out for me.
My regular readers have been voting on those last four, and while the lucky Giveaway hop winner will get their own choice from this list, it’s now my pleasure to announce the final winner.
If you’re a blogger, looking for an easy post, why not join in the launch for the eight book in the Princelings of the East series? All the details, and sign-up form, are here.
So, the winner and my book of 2017, is…
…..it’s a tie!
Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance and How to Stop Time were neck and neck throughout the voting period, and it finally ended with a tie – and they were so far ahead of the other nominees, I think it’s only fair. Apart from that, I really couldn’t choose between them.
Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang: “This book manages to combine charm with hard-hitting raw experience, slimy politics with homespun wisdom. It’s difficult to describe the delight I felt in this book without it sounding cute. It’s more of an epic in its range, something to settle with, to enjoy the ideas and the words, and yet rush eagerly through to see what happens next.”
How to Stop Time by Matt Haig: “I loved this book. Whenever I paused, I was thinking about it and looking forward to getting back to it. It isn’t time-travel, but it feels a bit that way. I think I marked it as historical fiction and scifi as well, although I see some have shelved it as fantasy and some as magical realism. Whatever it is, it’s engrossing.”
Congratulations to both authors and their representatives, and I hope your books continue to be really successful in 2018.
