fi50I’ve had hours of fun with the April Fi50. Yes, It’s May, not April. It’s May the fourth.  I usually give you the Star Wars greeting, but today it’s just Fi50.

Fiction in Fifty Words is, as you well know, a meme that Rebecca and I continue to push as we love doing micro-flash fiction.  Rebecca has the list of prompts on her blog here.  You can join in.  Just post your 50 words (or the link to your post) as a comment on Rebecca’s monthly post.

I’ll do that even though I’m a week late.  My excuse? I’ve been tidying up.  That’s what made me think of this for the April prompt, which is my title…

Hours of Fun

She sat back after taping up the last cardboard box.  So many lies, so many excuses…

“I can’t come out, I have washing to do.”

“Sorry, I’m seeing Judy tonight.”

“Mum’s coming over.”

Now it was done. No more excuses. Just get everything into the van and leave. No regrets.

Wow, Jemima — this is excellent! I’m horrible at flash fiction… That guest post for Vidya (thank you so much for the visit there; loved seeing you, and dying to read the Zen of Guinea Pigs!) was supposed to be about 500, maybe 700 words. It’s closer to 2,000. Yikes. So I’m in awe of those who, like you, manage to say so much in — well, in FIFTY WORDS!!!! Maybe I should try my hand at it. You know, for practice in becoming less wordy 🙂

Yes–do try! It doesn’t have to be good, but the practice is excellent! I’m like you–I like too many words, so it’s good discipline to carve a story down to the minimum.
