Keep is the first of Sue Vincent’s #writephoto challenges that I’ve accepted. I said near the end of last year I was going to find another blog hop to keep my short fiction going. I’m going to aim to keep to 100 words on the theme that Sue presents.
This meme runs every week. Sue presents the photo inspiration on a Thursday, and reblogs several posts emanating from it, before doing a round-up post and a new photo. I’ll pick weeks where I haven’t got much on, towards the end of the month. That will fill the gap in my blogging schedule left by the demise of Fi50 (and Flashback Friday, although I see several other versions of that around.)
So here is my first response.
Keep
What did you do, brother, to make him wall you in? I know you disagreed with his ambition, his greed. What did you say? Did you plan too unsubtly, or choose companions unwisely?
I told you to play safe, not to anger him. I know how his tempers swing; one minute he plays with me, the next he only wants to use me.
I try not to anger him. But I can’t bear sitting in here, looking at you.
Are you looking at me? I can’t see you.
Are you even still alive?
We are each princes in a tower.

Oooh, nice! All sorts of wonderful possibilities there.
This sounds like a writing hop I could get into—like you, maybe once or twice in a month. Though right now I think the blog is just going to have to pretty much go on hiatus while I am out of the country.
Well done Jemima welcome to the #writephito. 💜
Shudder!
Nice job. Your story fits perfectly with the photo.
