S is for Saurus #writephoto #AtoZChallenge2021

Saurus is the Greek for lizard, which is why the dinosaurs were named after them. Tyrannosaurus=tyrant lizard, and the Rex is the king of them. Brontosaurus is Thunder lizard.

The plural Sauria forms the sub-order of lizards under the reptile line Squamata, which also includes Ophidiae (Snakes). Sauria is commonly referred to (in the zoology world) as Lacertilia, and many references skip the Saurus connection entirely, making it a bit of a terminology dinosaur.

This possibly iron dinosaur was my inspiration today. Although, now looking at it, I’m not sure it’s a dinosaur. Too late. It’s actually last Thursday’s #writephoto prompt from KL Caley at New2Writing.com, so I’m a little late. Better late than extinct, though. Although the new prompt will be up at that link, so you can join in.

This is a haiku, which, in case you aren’t familiar with the syllable format, is a Japanese verse form with three lines, syllable pattern 5,7,5.

I had a dinosaur park close to my old home in Norfolk. I did a bird survey through there once, and had a long thought as to whether I could include the pterodactyl suspended from the trees. It looked very realistic… as the buzzard took off nearby!

How am I getting on with Zanzibar’s Rings, you ask. Well, having taken last weekend off to do some time-consuming jobs around the house, I’m in catch-up mode. There’s still a whole week of April to go. You can see whether I’m under pressure in the progress bar below. I reckon I should be at around 70k to hit the bar below, and 65k to hit my Camp NaNoWriMo target (which I cut earlier in the month).
