Zigzag. That’s my choice for the last post of this year’s A to Z Challenge. My theme this month is illustration, so I must show you z type images. Easier said than done.
My ten Princelings books and the two for younger readers, Messenger Misadventures and Cavies of Flexford Common all have illustrations. Most are chapter headings. Cavies is designed for younger readers (c 7 yrs old, Key Stage 1 in UK educational parlance). That has illustrations throughout.

The A to Z is a blog hop, so do go to other people who are doing it. You can find the links here.
Zigzags in the Realms
There are a few zigzags mentioned in the Princelings books, two being ways into secret back entrances to castles. Marsh and Buckmore both have them. I suspect many of the castles do. Fred and George talk about the one into their home, Castle Marsh, and they probably explored it as kids, before I started them on other adventures. It’s also a feature of the back way into Castle Buckmore. Fred checks that Willoughby knows it before he goes there on one of his secret missions. And that reminds me that there must be a secret entrance at Castle Arbor, which Fred uses in at least one book, if not two.
So here’s a new sketch, done last night, which doesn’t appear in any of the books…

A zigzag pattern
I did start the Ato Z with an eligible sketch, though. One of the first prompts in my art group’s February sketching challenge was pattern. This is what I did. I think it’s eligible for this post!

And that’s it for another year!
Thank you for coming, thank you for your nice comments.
I’ll do my Reflections post next Monday, and I’m cohosting the Insecure Writers Support Group monthly post next Wednesday. I hope to see you again soon.
And I suppose I could slip in a mention of my Z-titled book, Zanzibar’s Rings. No illustrations in it though. I sometimes think it would be fun to do an illustrated version. But no.

I’m Jemima Pett, author, blogger, illustrator and guinea pig wrangler. My interests are in fantasy, environment, science (inc. fiction) and thrillers, to name a few things. This is my nth AtoZ Challenge. Mostly I talk about books. This time I’ve been talking about something I do without much thinking about… my illustrations. Thank you for visiting.

An impressive job of doing the whole alphabet—and a new illustration, too! See you next Wednesday—we’re co co-hosts :).
Well done Jamima you’ve done a great job 💜💜💚
You did a wonderful A to Z blogger challenge this year, Jemima. It was fun waiting to see what you would choose to illustrate for each letter of the alphabet. I was really anxious to see the illustrations for the letter X. Very cleverly done. Can’t wait for next year.
Zig-zags are always fun, as was your entire series of posts, Jemima.
Your pattern sketch really plays with my eyes!

What a great A-Z you did this year! I really enjoyed it!
And you did it! Well done.
Yay – you got all the way there! Congratulations.
Lovely sketch. Good tie-in with your book. Great job finishing A to Z.
