I’ve read about the NaNoWriMo challenges from time to time. Basically participants sign up to write a novel in a month. On Kindleboards someone mentioned Camp NaNoWriMo which starts on August 1st and is a virtual summer camp for writers. Since I haven’t written for some time, I thought I’d give it a go.
I’ve had a number of ideas for stories backing up. I’ve done a little more thinking about Victor’s story, which is stuck, but having written out what each of the main characters is up to, I now need to sort the plot out and work out what Victor sees, imagines and interprets in order to finish the story! I have written the first few chapters of a later book, which is set quite a long way down the Princelings’ timeline and then I thought that maybe that is too far ahead. I’m beginning to think that story is exactly where I want it to be, but I need to know what’s happening in between now and then to write it properly.
I have the start of a story involving Dylan and Dougall coming together, so that could do with some working out and thinking more about. There are some things that have emerged from the interviews that could give rise to some interesting plotlines. So many ideas!
Having introduced Humphrey in the Prologue of Lost City I think it’s time to develop his story, provisionally entitled The Way West. So that is what I’m going to be doing during the NaNoWriMo camp. I have to write at least a 50,000 word novel during the month, and I’ll get feedback (and give it) from my ‘cabin’ and other participants. I think it’s a great opportunity for me and I’ll be giving up-dates here as well.
Wish me luck!
