National flash fiction day logo13smFor once, this is a UK National Day!  Over at Nationalflashfictionday.co.uk you’ll find all sorts of ways to be involved, and maybe in years to come we’ll have an event near Norwich like they have in the other towns and cities listed.  As they say:

On this site you will find information about the competitions we are running, the events being planned, the writers and publishers involved in the day, the various people who are helping us, and information on how to get involved.

There’s also a Flash Flood website which is pulling together pieces for various anthologies.  As they have a word limit of 500 words I had to work hard to get an entry together from those I’ve already done, but I made it!  I submitted revised (and shorter) versions of Dolphin Replay and The Rat’s Tale, both of which were rejected as ‘not their style’, so I edited Thanksgiving (a PG-13 story) and sent that along. This is the message I received on Thursday:

We’re pleased to say that we enjoyed your story and would like to publish it. It will appear on the journal blog, http://flashfloodjournal.blogspot.co.uk/ at around 1-2 am on National Flash-Fiction Day – 22nd June  2013.

Yippee!!  I’m not sure what timezone that is, presumably UK/BST.  But it’ll be there, that’s what counts!

Also there will be Judi Walsh – who wrote Spring will be a little late this year on my A to Z Challenge – in the 9-10 am slot with ‘Out of Book’.

Flash Flood is running stories throughout the day and I was trying to do something clever with the RSS feed so you could hop over to them from their titles, but failed, so you’ll just have to go to the website yourself!

PS If anyone knows of a flash fiction site for kids or MG readers, I’d love to hear about it.

STOP PRESS:  Hilary Slade (Norwich – City of Literature) will also be on – between 7 and 8 pm.  Go team!
