I thought I’d join Stuck In Books for her a-May-zing Giveaway hop – May I Suggest… which runs from now till 16th May.

In this  blog hop everyone is giving away book(s) they think are great and/or gift cards. You’ve got two weeks to enter them all!

Of course I would like to give away the AMAZING mystery adventure Bravo Victor, which launches Tuesday. But that’s not what this  blog hop is all about.  It’s about recommending books to you.

In December I made lists of my favourite books that I read last year – middle grade classics, time-travel, and overall.  I didn’t pick a winner.  I couldn’t pick a winner.  You can see what I thought of them here.  So far this year I’ve awarded 5 stars on Goodreads to Water for Elephants, Death by Ice Cream, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, A Thousand Perfect Things, Zoe and Zak and the Tiger Temple, Bring Up the Bodies, and The Crossing Places.  That’s seven books out of nineteen attempted (one I didn’t finish).  Interesting that three of those are from my bookclub.  Only one is a middle grade book  but I’ve not been as diligent on my middle grade reading as last year.  Two were book blog tours and two were my own choices – both detective-types.

So what’s in my giveaway?

Death by Ice Cream

I’m giving away a copy of Rebecca Douglass’s FANTASTIC murder mystery Death by Ice-cream, which I reviewed in March.  But if you win and you’re a middle grade reader, I’ll offer you a substitute.  How does that sound?

And because we have the technology and I can’t do a Goodreads giveaway of an ebook, I’ll giveaway one copy of Bravo Victor to an entrant who adds it to their Goodreads shelf. 🙂

Bravo Victor (The Princelings of the East, #6)

Giveaway runs until May 16th, midnight, New York time.  T&Cs on the rafflecopter. a Rafflecopter giveaway

Took your advice on the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society – great book and I enjoyed it tremendously. And I learned something about WWII. I love books where I get a chance to learn something! Thanks, Jemima. I’m writing down your new choices,

You can usually tell which of my “Currently reading” books in the Goodreads box on the right is my Bookclub book, Noelle (it’s the Book Thief at present). I htink over the six months I’ve been a member its had 4 five star reads, 1 4 star and one no stars!
I don’t know whether that says anything about traditionally published books – probably more about the amount of time they’ve been out and commented on.

Hard to choose just one, but An Unnecessary Woman by Rabih Alameddine really spoke to me.

I don’t know that one, Martha – I’ll check it out. Thanks!

So far this year, I’m obsessed with And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini.

    • 3 May, 2014 at 9:07 pm

Ah, I got very close to buying that – in a bookshop! Such a rare event I blogged about it – in November, I think! It certainly got on my pile of possibles. It’s definitely on my TBR list.

I would have to divide my favorites into categories. My middle grade favorite is Snicker of Magic. My adult favorite is Murder of Crows. I haven’t found a YA novel yet this year that rates five stars. Of course, I’ll keep reading.

Hmm I’ve already read quite a few books that I’ve enjoyed but I would have to go with Alienated by Melissa Landers.

    • 9 May, 2014 at 7:50 pm

Sounds interesting – another for me to check out 🙂

  • 11 May, 2014 at 7:34 pm

I would say The Book Thief by Markus Zusak 🙂

    • 12 May, 2014 at 11:20 pm

Funnily enough I’m reading that at the moment. I was enjoying it, then the attraction faded and I found it a bit tedious. At present I’m not sure whether I’m going to finish it.

Would that be for Death By Ice Cream or my own books (which are not murder mysteries, but mysteries of another kind)? Thanks for the offer, Lorraine!

      • 15 May, 2014 at 11:57 pm

I actually meant Death by Ice Cream. The title caught my interest. Hope that’s okay!
