Four days of torture:

Seventy-two holes of golf.

It’s just The Open!

The Open Golf Championship is the big event of the year for UK golfers, and of course, since the sport started here, it’s the only Open Championship that matters.  Occasionally we even have a Brit win – and if not a Brit, any European will do!  The Open starts on Thursday, and causes non-golfers to groan when hour after hour of green spaces punctuated by men in strange coloured and sometimes bizarrely pattern outfits take centre stage on the television.  All day on BBC.  Delicious!

Some of the courses show off our wonderful landscapes, too.  Turnberry and Troon have wonderful views of Ailsa Craig, the island in the Firth of Clyde. Royal  Sandwich is on the opposite corner of the country – close to Dover and the short hop across to France.  This year it’s at Royal Liverpool, also known as Hoylake, with fabulous views across Morecambe Bay – a haven for wildlife and internationally important wader (bird) site.  They won’t mind the odd golf ball heading their way.  The seagulls on our course are masters at avoiding our drives!

I’m haiku-less for this one. My husband has a fixation with golf, but I try to avoid it. Maybe I should watch today and get some inspiration?

No, if he has a fixation, leave him to it and do something else with your spare four hours 🙂
