Frankie Dupont has a letter in his pocket.  It may tell him the result of his PI exam.  He so wants to be a PI like his dad.  But Dad is away and his cousin Kat has gone missing.  Who can step in to help the inept Inspector Cluesome solve the mystery?

This is an original and mysterious detective novel, with Frankie cleverly tracking down the clues and using the best gadgets out of the PI’s kit in his rucksack.  As always in detecting crimes, one’s own senses are the most important, and Frankie doesn’t miss the sudden flash of an image in a mirror – but was it Kat, her pet gecko, or his imagination?  Gradually the clues mount up, along with the evidence of his own eyes, after all, why had he never seen Enderby Manor before last Thursday?

This is a wonderful read, suitable for 8-12 year-olds, although there are some quite long words in there, and I imagine it would also make great bed-time reading.  There is plenty of movement around the mysterious Manor, and a little bit of timing to consider, although I wouldn’t class it as time travel.  “Alternative dimensional” is a good phrase!  It will fascinate youngsters with  minds that like to explore the possibilities outside the science of the real world.  Oh, that would be me, then!

And the really good news is – it’s only the first in the Frankie Dupont series!

Exciting, inventive and beautifully written – well done, Julie Grasso!!

Frankie Dupont and the Mystery of Enderby Manor by Julie Anne Grasso

I read this as part of a book review blast hosted by Mother Daughter Book Reviews, and I received a free ecopy – but the views are entirely my own.

***

I followed this with reading Ben Zackheim’s Shirley Link and the Hot Comic – the second of his Shirley Link series.  It’s nearly as good as the first and thoroughly recommnded.  You can read my review on Goodreads (and on Amazon.co.uk)
