Season of ripe fruit;

Gather berries from hedgerows

And make tasty jam!

Yes, it’s blackberrying time of year.  I noticed the sloes were ready last weekend, and some of the wild brambles have ripe fruit – escaped cultivars are big and juicy this year.  The combination of warm days and wet nights have worked wonders – a bountiful crop!  They say abundance means nature is getting ready for a cold winter, but I suspect it’s just one of those things.  Nothing is predictable with the weather any more – just as the climate change scientists predicted in 1999 🙂

    We’re still waiting for it here. Loved your post – we used to have wild blackberries growing along our road and I would send the kids down with some containers to pick them for me. They made wonderful pies. Then the Department of Transportation came along and tore them all out!
    Haiku forthcoming…

      Sigh. Hopefully you can get some more going somewhere – blackberries are remarkably resilient!

      Love your haiku – much better than mine.
