As many of you know, after the A to Z April Blogging Challenge we are invited to go on a Road Trip during the rest of the year, visiting people we met, didn’t meet or would like to have met on the Challenge.  I’ve already had lots of visitors – Hi!! (waves excitedly) – and I’m planning to visit all my new visitors plus some I pick out of the original sign-up list, plus those I added to my Pinterest list for my version of the Road Trip.  I’ll give you a highlights post each month, just to make sure I do go visiting!

First up, a big thank you to Hilary Melton-Butcher who’s been back, read and commented on all my A to Z posts!  Wow, what a marathon 🙂  I think a couple of other people have done the same, judging from my stats, but they didn’t leave a footprint:)  If you haven’t visited Cornwall, but always wanted to, visit Hilary’s A to Z!

I have to highlight Diane Riggins at A Creative Mind who kicked off her A to Z of favourite characters from Lord of the Rings with, who else but Aragorn.  Be still my beating heart!  I loved him even before Viggo Mortensen created the film version, so that was wonderful eye-candy to start the Road Trip with.  I lingered long…  and then I went through all Diane’s A to Z. It’s very good and I recommend it.

wpid-img_20150403_132630I also went back to see what else Kai at author interrupted got up to after post the fantastic Falkirk Kelpies as a canny sculpture for C.  Unfortunately she had to drop out after K, but there’s some interesting posts there.

Dixie and Dillon are fabulous Australian Shepherd dogs on Livin’ La Vida Dog.  The A to Z for them was mainly photos, and boy do those dogs have fun.  They also came visiting – and entertained my guinea pigs, too!

That’s just a short outing this month – maybe more next…

Now for my monthly reading challenge update.   Although I’ve still only read 2 books set in my local area, Fingersmith, which I’ve just finished, is by Sarah Waters, an author with distinctly Norfolk connections.  No, it’s no good, I can’t squeeze her in, the challenge is ‘set in’ your local area, regardless of where the author comes from or has connections with!  Nice try, but no cigar, Jemima!  I really must focus on some of the books I have lined up to read for this challenge.  There’s no excuse, really.

If you’ve already signed up, leave a message in the comments on how you’re doing.  If you haven’t signed up yet, there’s still time – all you have to do is read some books set in your local area – and how you define local is entirely up to you.  It could be your city, your state, your mountain range or coast…  whatever works for you.  Just decide to read 3, 6 or 10 and follow the sign up instructions below.  The Challenge runs to the end of the year, and I have a Local Heroes target of 6.

I’ve now read 19 books towards my Goodreads target, plus four that aren’t listed separately on Goodreads, reviewed 17 for my Mad Reviewer Challenge, and included 3 for Bruce Gargoyle’s Oddity Odyssey, although I’m thinking about adding King Arthur’s Sister in Washington’s Court to that list!

Happy reading, but above all – have fun!

Thanks for visiting, Jolie. Is Wild the one that’s out as a film recently – with someone like Renee Zellweger walking across the US?

LOL! Reese Witherspoon hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. Very scenic movie, and some good laughs for those of us who hike 🙂

Road trip has started already, and I’m still looking for my suitcase. I’ll get there eventually–have to visit some of these you mention (I am totally with you about Aragorn son on Arathorn).

And I have my first book for the local reading challenge. Haven’t read it yet, but as it’s local history and mostly pictures, I have some hopes of getting to it.

Yay! I got A Little Book of Norwich from the History Press because they had one of those ads on Facebook… so they can work 🙂

Hi Jemima – thanks so much for the mention … I so enjoy Natural Phenomena and thus thoroughly enjoyed all your posts – creative A-Z theme.

I admire you taking on the roadtrip challenge … I’ve started in previous years and failed thereafter … this year I’m also taking time out during the summer to get on with other things. But your recommendations I shall go visit before I take my quatrabbatical til September! Cheers Hilary
