This is my third year doing the Midwinter’s Eve Giveaway Hop; thanks once again to Mary at BookHounds for organising it so well.

This is, of course, my last Giveaway of the year.

fi50It’s also the day for posting my 50 word flash fiction story #Fi50, which is a monthly challenge hosted by the Bookshelf Gargoyle.  If you haven’t met him before, he and his friends review numerous books each week, from children’s through YA to crime and mystery and scifi and occasionally non-fiction.  There’s also a crafting feature!

This month’s prompt was Recipe for Success, and here is my offering:

My Mother’s Mince Pies

Mix flour, ground almonds, butter, to breadcrumb consistency. Add beaten egg and milk to a stiff dough. Roll and cut into rounds. Place bases in baking cups; add mincemeat with a dash of brandy.  Brush tops with milk and stick edges together.  Sprinkle with sugar and bake.

Eat with love!

Terence didn’t see a notice ‘May Contain Nuts’ before he ate the mince pie. He’s now twice the size he was and fighting for his life in casualty. Jemima smiled as she considered her revenge after being plagiarised.
    Happy Christmas Jemima

I’ve just come up with my Fi50…but it’s too hot down here to bother with word limits, so it could be an epic.

Eat too much, talk too much with kin, and wait for the sun to return. That’s my winter solstice traditions.

    Peace and Goodwill toward Men

As I get older that means much more to me. Peace within my immediate family, peace within extended family, peace with friends and acquaintances, peace with strangers and they with all those around them.
