Finding time to read: you remember I started the month with the announcement I was doing the Clean Sweep ARC Challenge again this month?

I thought you might like to know how it’s going at the end of week 3.

Okay-ish.

‘Ish’ because it’s more than I normally read in a month, and less than I really wanted, given the size of the ARC pile.

But I read the important ones:

  • all of the Netgalley ones close to their schedules
  • all those I’d promised to give feedback on (okay, that was only one!)
  • one of my friends’ whose book I hadn’t managed to fit in earlier

Do I have enough time to read?

I’m struggling to get through one of those I’d got at Noirwich. It’s a paperback, and as mentioned before, I need a good light to read it.  I haven’t had enough free time to do so.  The ones on kindle I was reading while I was cuddling Kevin, in fact I read a couple of chapters of Noelle’s Death By Pumpkin to him, because I thought he’d enjoy the sound of my voice while he snoozed.  Nothing scary for him, of course.  I think he enjoyed it, anyway.

I sat cuddling him because I knew he was on the way over the Rainbow Bridge, and so it proved.  He died just before midnight on Tuesday 10th May, and I still woke up at four am to give him his extra feeds for the next two nights.  I’m pretty much back to normal now, but I haven’t had the luxury of sitting and reading.  Too much golf. Too much organising golf.  Too much going to meetings for golf (I hadn’t expected that). Oh, and I’ve been playing golf too!  And as you know, all that made me change last week’s flash fiction around too.  So reading has taken a back seat.

I expect I’ll find time to read this week – or at least before May is out – so I’ll have done well, by my standards.

Five read, one started, another hoped-for: I think seven out of the fifteen listed would be a great result.  I won’t beat myself up if I only manage five in the end, though!

Jemima, sorry to hear about Kevin. Pets are such loving companions. I’m glad you got the cuddle time.

Thanks, Sandy. He was elderly, and well-loved. I think he knew that.

So sorry about Kevin. You’re a good mum to the furry ones, and they are lucky to have you.

Thanks for the read and feedback!

I’m still grieving Kevin. I think all the golf was good for you – got you out and about. Helped, I think!

Yes it kept my mind off things, but I felt the need to find time to grieve in the evenings. Then Percy got a lump too, but he’s taking that all in his stride. It’s the old boys you miss most, because they’ve been around so long, as a kind soul said at my dad’s funeral.
