My Reading Challenge list should be halfway through its targets, since it’s halfway through the year.  Let’s find out if we’re on track.

Goodreads Reading Challenge

Target: 52 for the year, read 34.  8 ahead of schedule.  This is where those Net-Galley ARCs really help!

My Animals and Other FamilyNon-Fiction Adventure

Target: 5 for the year, read 2. My Animals and Other Family, and A Brief History of Time.  Both physical books on my bookshelf which is another plus.  I’m trying to work out whether I have anything on my shelves longer than I had Brief History of Time.  I was worried I might struggle to get my non-fiction target, but my (physical) bookclub has given us a non-fiction this month.

2018 Finishing the Series Challenge

Target: 4 was my initial aim, but 5 takes me to the second level, and I’m on course for that.

Finished 3 series after a binge in April:  The Shadows from the Past series (Wendy Leighton-Porter, MG), the Ruth Galloway series (Elly Griffiths, crime), the Pismawallops PTA series (Rebecca Douglass, Cozy mystery).  Okay, the last is a bit of a cheat but it was within the rules. I’m on course to finish the Falco series (Lindsey Davis, historical crime).  I might finish the Dining out… series (scifi) and the Wrinkle in Time series (MG) although I’ve a lot to read for that, but I now own them all.  I ought to do a second MG series, as that was my original aim.

Alphabet Soup Challenge

shadow of the tudor roseTarget 26, with extras for the A to Z MG challenge:  I’ll probably make it to 26, but sadly lacking in MG due to everything I read for MG seeming to begin with S.  I’ve done 15 of the letters so far, so ahead of schedule.  I pencilled in some suggestions, and as usual, the more difficult letters are put in just to make up the letters, and I don’t really want to read them.  Maybe I’ll skip this challenge next year.

Cloak and Dagger Reading Challenge

Target between 5 & 15; I’m heading for 12-15.  This was easy given three series reads that qualified, and I like crime, suspense and thrillers anyway, and they all count as long as there are bodies to be identified and criminals to be unmasked.  I’m now up to 8.

Mount TBR Reading Challenge

Target 36, that’s the third level.  I’m now halfway through the second level, which means I’m on course with 19 read.  The earliest listed has been Alexandria, listed soon after it was published in Jan 12 (when I started on Goodreads).

Recovering Apollo 8 coverOfficial 2018 TBR Pile Reading Challenge

Target: 12 specified books.  I specified books I really felt I should read because they’d been right up to the top of the list and fallen back again.  Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea.  I discovered I didn’t even own all of them!  But, I’ve got them now, and I need to put in some effort to get through them. I have, though, read 6, although one was skimmed and won’t be reviewed.  Having said that, Snapshots, Daemon and Recovering Apollo 8were all great reads and I’m glad I pushed them up the list!

Conclusion

I’m on course with all the challenges, but some will be easier to finish than others.  I must find a Speculative fiction challenge next year.  That would be better than scifi, although I seem to remember finding a suitable challenge that would include Spec fiction.

Impressive reading round-up. I’m ahead with the basic Goodreads one, but I set a low target – up from last year. (Also, I read a series but that was just 3 – now tackling a series of seven but only on 3rd.)

The good things about the series challenge is you can start it anywhere. So one of the series I’ve just the 19th of 20, and another I’ve read 1 of five. Then again, I just added one with the only new book in the series. I dropped my GR target last year back to one a week. I really don’t want to have to read more than that. Some take weeks, others take days 🙂

One is fine 🙂 And you’ve had other things to deal with.
