As mentioned in January, the A to Z Review and book tour blog hop runs from today to the end of February.

A to Z Review BooktourA Book of my A to Z Challenge

It’s a really interesting premise.  Have you made a book out of your AtoZ Challenge?  Any type of book, fiction, non-fiction, how-to, travelogue, photo book…

If you have, you were invited to sign up to have at least one person review it.  With any luck, many people would review it and you’d get yourself a blog tour.

I considered this.  I looked at my past subject matter for my A to Zs and wondered if any of them would make a good book.  That was instructive in itself, just looking back on my themes.

  • 2012 theme was the A to Z of the Princelings world
    • I learned that my Princelings world was not as well-built as I thought it was.  Doing the A to Z Challenge was a huge step forward for me in learning about world-building. It might make a book, some day, when I’ve finished the series. But not now.
  • 2013 theme: short stories
    • Some of these stories belong in an anthology of my work.  Some are already wrapped into other stories.  A few of them are cringeworthy. Not a candidate, really.
  • 2014 theme: the NATO alphabet
    • One of my most fun challenges, but not a book!
  • 2015 theme: natural phenomena
    • This was fun and interesting, but what I find interesting about the natural world would need a lot more work before making it into a book.  Besides, there are loads of very good works out there about strange natural phenomena.
  • 2016 theme: world-building
    • This was probably my most ‘successful’ theme.  It got a lot of interest, especially in the round-up post.  With a bit of work, I could produce some good stuff about my world-building wisdom, with examples from the worlds (from A to Z) I cited during April 16.
  • 2017 theme: My Blog
    • Plenty of insight into what I do and how I do it, but really, a book? No.
  • 2018 theme: Inspirations for my writing
    • Again, more personal revelations to my followers about what inspires me.  Best kept on the blog, I think

So, having identified at the same time a theme for 2019 (it took one day to list all the posts, so it might end up happening again) I decided not to make a book for the A to Z Review Challenges.  I can hear you sigh with relief.  Although I think the world-building one has potential.

A to Z Review of other people’s outputs

Ever one to join in, I decided to sign up to review a maximum of four books, including science fiction and non-fiction in my categories, identifying Fridays during the period as my most suitable dates, or Mondays if necessary.

I’ve received three to review, the first of which appears on Friday.  There’s one science fiction book, one book on tips for authors reviewing books, which sounds right up my street, since I can do with more tips on that, and… a guide to world-building.

I’m so glad I didn’t cobble a guide of my own together!

The blog tour of books that have been reviewed should be an interesting event.

The blog tour list is below – or just check out the A to Z Challenge website.  If you do that, the book reviewed today is the one reviewed here on 22nd!  Just saying 🙂

Giveaway and blogs in this event:

Take a blog tour around all the websites hosting this event:  like me, most will be reviewing multiple books, so check back at least weekly through February.

Good luck, Jemima. I loved doing the A-Z challenge when I first started my blog, but it was so labor intensive that it took away from my writing, never more so than this year. It is a great source of satisfaction, though. Have at it!

You’re right, it does detract from writing. How I managed to do Camp Nano alongside it one year, I have no idea. Maybe I didn’t do much visiting. Looking forward to your next one…

I am not doing any more A to Z Challenges, I think. I just can’t seem to make it work for me, and I always feel bad for not doing more visiting—which is what reallly eats up the time.

Having said that, it has flitted across my mind to do a photo a day this year. But I’d have to do it all in advance, and wouldn’t be much of a participant, since we’ll be on the road the whole month of April and on into May.
