Viday Sury - distracted or mindfulThe Distraction question arrived in my email inbox on Friday, just after I’d done a ‘Things to Do’ list for October that was … very long.

It seems I have to chase my selling solicitors, since we haven’t yet established a reasonable relationship. So I’m on edge as to whether I’ve done all the right things and whether they’re acting on the things I’ve done. The buying side seems to be proceeding okay, which is Murphy’s Law, as I don’t actually need it to be that quick.

So the house transactions are providing the usual anxieties, common the world over, probably. Then I add in my concerns over the launch of Chronicles of Marsh, with new edits back from my editor (who recommended delaying publication) and the illustrations falling behind schedule, partly because my brain isn’t coming up with anything I can execute half decently.

And then the wonderful Vidya Sury asks in her blog Are You Too Distracted to Notice?

Yes, I think. I haven’t got time now. Then I open the link, because it looks like a good thing to do.

Distraction or Mindfulness?

I am currently running a daily mindfulness tip series on Instagram and going by the lovely comments, it is nice to receive a daily reminder especially when we are too busy with our ever-growing to-do list and cannot stop to consciously breathe. [vidyasury.com]

I know practising mindfulness might help me slow down and end up achieving more, and certainly enjoying it more, but I’m really too busy to think about that right now. My to-do list is too long and growing too fast.

Hang on a minute. Vidya acknowledges that.

Her next sentence says she thinks of three things she’s grateful for when she sips her morning cup of coffee.

I can do that.

I can take a few seconds and think of things that will help me relax, and smile.

Then I can get on with the next thing on my list.

And maybe stop, and stand up, and breathe, before I get on with the next thing.

Thank you, Vidya.

Distracted by the website?

Something way down my to-do list that may be distracting you: my websites (all of them, as the problem’s in the root files) are suffering from a missing file. It gives a fatal error message when you post comments, although it goes ahead and posts them.  It stops me loading new images, which is more than irritating. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s way down my to-do list.

Sorry, but while it works, it’ll have to wait. I know you’ll understand.

I must try harder to fix the typos before I publish, though.

Jemima! How masterfully you wove me into your post! When my Mom kept telling me to pause to breathe, I always laughed it off. And she’d say, “When I am gone, you’ll realize the value of this.” Yep, Mommy’s always right. Fortunately I did realize the value of pausing to breathe when she was around and in and out of hospital. I am so grateful to her for teaching me how simple it is to practice mindfulness through all that we do. The overwhelm occupies so much space that we don’t see the big picture.

Thank you so much, my dear friend. It’s an honor to be mentioned by you. Hugs!

Revamping my blog site is also on my list! Maybe to celebrate the New Year? How is the moving coming? Post pictures of the new house?

No pictures until i’ve moved in. Too many things can go wrong before then!

I should take a look. Mindfulness isn’t something I’m very good at :}. Hope all goes well with the houses; I know how much of a distraction that can be, but you’ll get through it.

And that revamping the web site thing must be viral, because I need to do it too, and keep putting it off.

I’ve visited the depths of my system and removed a few GB of duplicated image files; apologies if you find blog posts with errors on the pics.
