A to Z Challenge is not for me, I said. I’m not doing it this year. But I am challenging myself this month, so I decided to make it a Writing Challenge.

I have to finish Zanzibar’s Rings this month. I started in late February. By the start of March I had 10,000 words. But I had a deal of editing and proof reading of other projects, so didn’t do much more till last weekend. And after Tuesday’s sad news I took a break, and did some gardening and walking. I need over 80,000 to allow for editing–and 90,000 would be better. Split the difference for my target!

Zanzibar’s Rings: Book 3 of the Viridian Series

Draft Blurb….

Concerned that the asteroid belt might not hold enough orichalcum to keep them going, the Viridian System elders suggest Pete and the Swede check out the fifth planet, Zanzibar, which has twenty-four moons and a slender ring system (much like Saturn).

With the Imperium senator still sniffing around, there is trouble for Dolores who inadvertently becomes his personal chauffeuse. With the refugees from Pete’s home planet needing more resources to help them rebuild their civilisation, there are enough sparks to fuel a fire—and then the Federation and Imperium arrive to argue about the wealth of Zanzibar’s Rings.

Hmmm… that was from 2017 or so. I’ve already changed the inciting incident. And I’m about to change it some more! If you don’t come back before, return for Z on April 30th, and see what the new blurb says!

Why am I not doing Camp NaNoWriMo instead?

A few years ago they got rid of cabins. The cabin system wasn’t perfect, but I reckon it’s better than having to ask someone you don’t know if you can join theirs. So although I’ve registered for Camp again this year it’s just to give me the daily wordcount to force me to plod on through the sticky bits!

Have a nice April A to Z Challenge!

See you around 🙂

Good luck on meeting your goals. They remind me that having a daily word count like you have can result in a lot of pages being written quickly. My goal right now is to write or edit some most days, and that’s working for me.

Writing a book is a good excuse 🙂 for not doing A-Z. I approve!

Sending you all those good writing vibes. They are in the air. Don’t let anyone tell you that’s pollen, it’s writing vibes 🙂

Sounds like a good plan to me. Having a goal always keeps things moving forward. And it is always good to remain flexible with the details.

You go! I can’t wait to read the beta :). And I have a writing goal for April: keep my journal and write one short story.
