It’s a little late, but you may still be able to get these Middle Grade books for Christmas. These are favourites I’ve read over the years. Some may be hard to find in print, though. They are in no particular order, although the first ones tend to be reviewed more recently, and the last ones are seasonal.
This is another post joining in Marvellous Middle Grade Mondays, run by Greg Pattridge at Always in the Middle. I had a load of MG reads to review, so I’ll see how long it takes me to get through them if I post on the third Monday of the month.
- The Year of Shadows by Claire Legrand
- An orphan finds friendship and a mission with the ghosts of the theatre
- The Wide Awake Loons by Katherine L Holmes
- A summer on a MInnesota lake – but can they save the wildlife?
- Salt by Helen Laycock
- A seaside village with secrets, and many twists
- Secrets of the Great Fire Tree by Justine Laismith
- Charming tale based on Chinese folklore
- The Shadow of Atlantis (Shadows From The Past #1)
- Three kids and their cat, Max, go time travelling. The series isn’t finished yet, but rumoured to end at 24.
- Gasp of the Ghoulish Guinea Pig (Undead Pets series) by Sam Hay
- Fun mild horror for fans of Captain Underpants etc. (for older MG, click that link for Kit’s Wilderness)
- Frankie Dupont and the Mystery of Enderby Manor (Frankie Dupont #1) by Julie Anne Grasso
- A lovely MG schoolboy who finds his calling in solving mysteries
- Halitor the Hero by Rebecca Douglass
- A hapless hero, who discovers he has talents after all when he saves a village from wintry disaster
- When Santa Fell to Earth by Cornelia Funke
- Charming book, ideal for family reading at Christmas
- The Night They Nicked Saint Nick by Carl Ashmore
- A rip-roaring adventure that is fun for all the family.
and of course there’s a ten-book series starting with The Princelings of the East, written by me.
Thanks for all the book recommendations, Jemima. I’m glad you included Rebecca’s book. And I didn’t realize Cornelia Funke wrote a Christmas story.
Given that I ‘only’ read it in 2017, I’m surprised I don’t remember it better. But I gave it five stars, so it must be good!
Thanks for this list, Jackie. I am saving it!
You’re welcome, Noelle 😀
Great list—I’ll want to check out some of those I haven’t yet read 🙂 Of course, Halitor’s wintery adventure was the short story in BookElves, but he definitely learns he has more skills than previously thought in the novel, as well! Thanks for including it.
You know, I read my review and thought… er, was that a short story?
But the world needs more Halitor, anyway.
This was just the kind of list I need this time of the year to wrap up my holiday shopping. I’ve not read many of these myself so I’ll be adding several to my future read list. Thanks for being a part of MMGM this week.
Thanks for the recommendations! I hadn’t of any of them but I will check them out! 🙂
