The Bloggers Bash Competition this year is on the theme of FIVE.
quintus ~ cinq ~ cinco ~ fünf ~ pente ~ khms ~ wu ~ tano
Or… in Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Serbian, Slovak and Slovenian, it is pet— in the cyrillic alphabet, пет.
I’m Jemima Five!
Significant Fives for me
What do you do that comes in fives?
I’ve had five guinea pigs on several occasions, after one died, or when I got Percy, the only one that came as a lone pig.
My last famous five? Oscar, Midge, Percy, Biggles and Bertie.
Five favourite places
Isle of Mull, (Treshnish Point): the view across the sea to Coll and Tiree— seabirds like gannet, fulmar and puffin nest in the cliffs.
Winterton Dunes, Norfolk: grassed dunes on the English east coast. Featured in my Princelings books!
Epping Forest, Essex: last remnant of ancient forest: coppiced beech and hornbeam, with sunlight through leaves casting dappled shade.
City of Bath: always feels like coming home.
City of Norwich; is indeed a Fine City.
Five favourite foods cheeses
You may not have heard of all these unless you’re from the British Isles!
Wensleydale (the smoked is divine, too)
Five favourite films
Films I can’t stop watching when they’re on. Comfort films!
Local Hero (1983) An oil tycoon wants to buy up a Scottish fishing village for an oil terminal.
Those Magnificent Men in the Flying Machines (1965). Biplanes and silliness.
Love Actually (2003). So cheesy.
Despicable Me 2 (2013) because it makes me Happy…
Apollo 13 (1995) Success out of failure.
Five significant albums
The soundtrack of my life?
Revolver (1966) – The Beatles. Foreshadows Sgt Pepper and includes my favourite ever track – Got to get you into my life.
Dark Side of the Moon (1971)- Pink Floyd. Released for the days after my university finals.
Quadrophenia (1973) – The Who. Captures the Mods/Rockers and the low life I encountered after uni perfectly
Brothers in Arms (1985) – Dire Straits – especially Walk of Life, one of my favourite dance tunes, and always reminds me of a friend.
Tanz der Vampir (1999) – the original Vienna cast recording of Jim Steinman’s musical Dance of the Vampires, ruined when it was brought to Broadway. Probably the best work the late Steve Barton ever did.
That’s my Five of Five – what are yours?
Wow, I can’t match those. I’ve got five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot… I couldn’t even begin to narrow the world down to 5 favorite places, but off the top of my head, 5 favorite foods are chocolate, fresh-baked bread just out of the oven (with butter and maybe jam), the first cup of coffe each morning, home-made pizza, and chocolate chip cookies hot out of the oven and dipped in milk.
I think it best if you do them quickly. I had to think hard after the first three places, to narrow it to two more, but the others were much easier.
Would have to think about that for a long time! There wouldn’t be any Pink Floyd in there though – and i’ve only heard of two of those cheeses.
Ah, but you have heard of two of them! I used to be able to get Orkney Smoked on my forays into Scotland in the 1980s. Haven’t seen it for years, although I do occasionally see ordinary Orkney in shops.
Awww. your guinea pigs looks so fluffy and cute. Can I cuddle them?
Definitely! I’ve just given Roscoe and Neville a bath so they’re even softer and cuddlier (and fluffier) than before!
