Artistic images for my book covers I generally leave to others. But I am now capable of putting a couple of photographs together in a decent display for certain types of books. I generally don’t go further than that, although this post by Derek Haines gives you an idea of how to put some simple badges together for your blog posts.
But today I am joining the A2Z Challenge to pay tribute to someone who really put the sparkle in the challenge – Jeremy Hawkins, who died on January 3rd. The first A2Z I did was bereft of images. The super badges for every day of the month, plus an overall badge, plus the ‘winners’, and several other graphics like the letter calendar, and the Theme Reveal badge – all those were Jeremy’s work. And he had more, much more, as I looked at his website once 🙂
Jeremy’s A to Z Images
I do have my favourites (or least liked) among the eleven or so years of A 2 Z badges. These are my five favourites:
Although I couldn’t find the one from 2012, except on my guinea pig blog!
I’d like to thank Jeremy for all of them (I think I have on the A2Z page in the past). I still use them in my A to Z Reading Challenge page, replacing the letters with covers as I go.
With sympathy and very best wishes to his family and friends.
IWSG Question of the Month
This is my Insecure Writers Support Group post, in which we share our successes and failures as writers, our insecurities, in fact. Anyone can join in, just sign up at the IWSG Sign-up page, write a blog post on the first Wednesday of the month, and go back to that sign up page to link with everyone else–or a goodly sample. Our host is Alex J Cavanaugh, and cohosting this month are:
and this month’s question is…
Is there someone who supported or influenced you that perhaps isn’t around anymore? Anyone you miss?
Yes. Zanzibar’s Rings is dedicated to some of them.
And in case you don’t know…
Zanzibar’s Rings will be published on 22nd February
But you can get it now!(click the link)
Hi Jemima, I have been reading about Jeremy and a befitting tribute to him on the IWSG platform. Best wishes for the book release.
Hi Jemima, Best of luck with the book.
Hi Jemima – you’ve shown us some of Jeremy’s designs … just so sad he’s left us so early. I didn’t know him except realised he was around the blogosphere with various ideas and designs … like you I send thoughts to his family and friends – all the best Hilary
That’s so awesome that you’re dedicating your book to those who helped you on your writer’s path who are no longer here. I didn’t know Jeremy, but I’m glad that those of you who do are remembering him today.
What a lovely tribute to Jeremy AND many congrats on your new release. Wishing you much success.
How sad to lose someone so young! But thanks for your lovey tribute and congrats on the new release!
Twenty days until release!
Jeremy did so many amazing graphics.
I am sad about Jeremy. I never knew him, but did enjoy his graphics as an AtoZ participant. Best of luck with your upcoming book!
Jeremy did great work for the A to Z and it’s a bummer we won’t get to enjoy new stuff from him anymore.
I’ve been out of the loop, and regret that I never really thought about who made the AtoZ badges. I will be checking out that post, since I’m like you—trying to do some basic graphic design on my own!
I saw another blogger refer to Jeremy’s death, but I didn’t know exactly who he was until I read this. 2014 and 2015 were the two A to Zs I did so I recognise those.
Hope you had a good IWSG day! I was under the weather earlier this week (not the C👾vid, don’t worry), but I’m much improved now.
I’ve been scheduling debut author interviews at Operation Awesome. If you know one, please tell them to reach out to me.
Over at the a-to-z challenge, plans are hatching for April 2022, including a big event this month (starts Feb 4).
Plus, WEP has the “All You Need is Love” flash fiction challenge on February 16 – 18.
Quote for February: “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” -John Bunyan
Congratulations on your next book coming out!
